RELATED: The Best And Worst Things About Gotham Knights
The main crux of Gotham Knights focuses on Batman dying at the hand of Ra’s al Ghul. Talia has returned to Gotham to look into the matter, but there is something else behind the scenes at work. It’s an interesting story that should keep players guessing until the end. There are quite a few questions left on the table though. So, let’s go through the biggest in a spoiler-filled discussion.
7 Is Batman Dead?
Bruce/Batman died once at the beginning of the game which was hard to swallow. Smart players probably figured out he would return via the Lazarus Pit since Talia was involved as a character. He’s brought back from the dead, fights the player, and then sacrifices himself once again to thwart the Court of Owls from getting their hands on the Lazarus Pit.
In the end, it’s said that only debris from the Batwing is found and there was no body. Since Bruce died offscreen, it is possible he survived and may return in a sequel but that is a question left unsolved.
6 Exploring The Backstories Of The Four Heroes
Even if players have a deep knowledge of the characters in the game, Gotham Knights’ lore could be original. For example, Jason Todd is executed by the Joker in a famous story in the comics, returns as Red Hood, and eventually settles down to be a less wild anti-hero.

That seems to be the case in Gotham Knights too but when that happened isn’t fully explored. The same goes for the rest of the playable characters as their backstories only get lightly touched on. It would be interesting to learn more in the prequel DLC to shed some light on these mysteries.
5 Who Is The New Voice?
This is one of the updated points on the bulletin board after players finish with the credits. Who is the new Voice of the Court of Owls that showed up in the Lazarus Pit? Is he someone that players met in the game, or at least someone even the lightest Batman fan would recognize?
It’s hard to say but out of all DLC possibilities, it seems like this will get explored first before a proper sequel. Putting it on the player’s board would be odd otherwise. There’s also the matter of how much the Court of Owls has meddled with overtime in this version of Gotham.
4 What’s Next For Talia Al Ghul?
The new Voice of the Court of Owls will probably get explored in DLC but what happens with Talia will probably be saved for later. It’s said that she left behind a squad of assassins to keep an eye on Gotham, but she left. So, what could possibly be the next arc for her character in this new universe?
In the comics, Bruce and Talia have a son, Damian, who has yet to be introduced in any recent video game adaptation of this franchise. Talia may have forced Bruce to bed to get a child after brainwashing him in the Lazarus Pit. She might return then with a baby or perhaps a child version of Damian if there is a time skip in the Gotham Knights sequel.
3 What Supervillains Are Still Alive?
Gotham Knights is pretty light on iconic villains that players have to face in battle. The Penguin has retired as a “legitimate” businessman with his club. The main focus of the game is on the Court of Owls and Talia. Other villains appear as side missions including Mr. Freeze, Harley Quinn, and the ever-changing Clayface.
Mr. Freeze and Harley Quinn were locked up in Blackgate before escaping which begs a further question. Is there anyone else locked up in Blackgate of note like The Riddler or The Joker? How many villains are alive and kicking around in general waiting in the wings for DLC or a sequel?
2 What Happened To Arkham Asylum?
Blackgate is the only prison mentioned in Gotham Knights that is housing villains. The mainstay of the Batman series has always been Arkham Asylum because it was supposed to be a treatment facility.

Batman has a code not to kill anyone which is why he was so gung-ho about re-educating these villains at Arkham Asylum to get them ready for society again. So then, what happened to this facility in this universe where it was abandoned in favor of a more normal prison line Blackgate? That could be an interesting lane for DLC to explore with Batman as the star.
1 Will Commissioner Kane Respect The Vigilantes?
With Jim Gordon dead, Catherine Kane took over as the new commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department. Unlike Gordon, Kane is against working with vigilantes like Batman. It’s never explained why. It almost seems like the game wanted players to think she was a crooked cop working with her husband Jacob Kane who was in charge of the Court of Owls until getting assassinated by Talia.
As far as players are aware, Kane is on the up and up. Perhaps she will even trust the Batman family now that they helped expose the Court of Owls and stopped the League of Assassins. Whether Batgirl and the rest of the crew meet eye-to-eye with Kane remains to be seen though.
Gotham Knights was released on October 21, 2022, and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
