The Court of Owls made their debut in Batman issue #1 of the New 52 by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. In the comics, Batman needed the help of the bat family to fight against this foe, however, in Gotham Knights, the team of sidekicks will have to deal with the Court of Owls on their own. Although the Court of Owls debuted in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman run, the antagonist has also made its way to other Batman media, such as the animated film Batman vs Robin, and the series Gotham. Robert Pattinson and Paul Dano, actors that played Batman and Riddler, expressed their desire to see the Court of Owls in a sequel to The Batman. Even so, WB Games Montreal is next to take up the Court of Owls mantle with Gotham Knights.

Gotham Knights teases the expansion of the Court of Owls storyline on Twitter with a new promotional image that reveals members of the secret society, as well as their deadly assassins known as Talons. Not much is known about the Court of Owls, but it can be interpreted that the different masks worn by the figures in the image are associated with a hierarchical position within the society itself. The background of the image shows what might be a cave, suspected to be a hidden base of some kind, with talons scaling rock formations.

The development studio is known for Batman Arkham Origins, which was set as a prequel to Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham games. At the time of its release, it was met with mixed reviews, but is now largely seen as an important addition to the Arkham universe. The events that follow the secret ending to Batman Arkham Knight are similar to the premise for Gotham Knights, although WB Games Montreal has stated that its new game is not connected to the Batman Arkham games.

The story trailer for Gotham Knights shows the bat family doing detective work to unravel the mystery and unveil the truth of Gotham, while simultaneously looking into what may have led to Batman’s death. This investigation leads them to the Penguin, who insinuates the level of danger by the Court of Owls, an enemy that is always watching.

Gotham Knights is available on October 21, 2022, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
