WB Games revealed Gotham Knights would be releasing four days earlier, on October 21, instead of October 25. The reasoning why isn’t really clear, but whether it was the cause or not, there is one benefit of moving up its release date: fans get a week with it before the next major games of the fall drop.

Gotham Knights’ Small Release Date Change Has Big Impact on Gaming Time

October 28 is shaping up to be one of the biggest individual days of the coming fall. Multiple game releases on one day isn’t necessarily uncommon, but there are four titles, in a way, that may capture fan attention on that date: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Bayonetta 3, Resident Evil Re:Verse, and Resident Evil Village’s Winters expansion. The latter is highly anticipated by fans, and the first two are easily some of the most anticipated full titles of the year. Gotham Knights players would have had three days to play before any of these came out originally, and that limited time could impact how many feel about the Bat-family title.

After all, release timing is super important. Not only do games compete for an individual’s money, but they compete for a player’s time. This is especially true of a game like Gotham Knights, as players may want to invest time in perfecting their loot and build, yet they could be drawn away before ever starting that specific journey in three days. Now, moving it up four days means players will get a week with Gotham Knights before the next major release; perhaps they’ll stay, perhaps they’ll move on, or perhaps they’ll continue to play Gotham Knights while playing the others. Four days make a huge difference in player investment and those choices nonetheless.

Gotham Knights improves its timing with such a move, and November is a curious case as to why such a move is important. Already, game developers have reportedly delayed games to avoid God of War Ragnarok; it’s the Avengers Endgame to movie releases for this year. If players have to choose between God of War and something else, chances are they are going with God of War. Yet, despite this, Sonic Frontiers and Skull and Bones release the day before God of War Ragnarok. That limited time is harmful to those two games, and Gotham Knights was right to move its release date up for similar reasons.

Gotham Knights is set to release on October 21 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
