Each of Gotham Knights’ playable protagonists is unique, and it will be interesting to learn more about how their authentic backstories influence their character development in the game’s narrative events. However, not much has been clearly defined about Gotham Knights’ Bat Family besides Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl, who fans know was previously Oracle. In a recent reveal from Gotham Knights, even more insight has been shed for Barbara that may allude to important story beats.

Gotham Knights has released what looks like in-game images that show Barbara interacting with a custom diorama. It appears as if Barbara herself has constructed this diorama in the Belfry in an effort to recreate the scene of a crime. In this particular crime scene of what looks like a house or apartment, an individual in the form of a miniature figurine is pinned to a wall with several bladed instruments piercing through him. Interestingly, Barbara even has a miniature of her father, Police Commissioner Jim Gordon, as he surveys the murder scene.
This is certainly an odd and macabre way to reexamine a crime scene, especially with her dead father involved. But it all the while demonstrates that Barbara is incredibly detail-oriented when it comes to detective work, having worked as Oracle for an undetermined time. Barbara likely became as intrepid of a detective as Bruce Wayne or Alfred, learning how to assess a crime scene for any potential clues after the matter.
Jim’s death in Gotham Knights will be significant to Barbara’s character development, reinstating precisely why she chooses to defend Gotham. Jim being involved in this crime scene may allude to her looking into his death further, perhaps by attempting to discover what he had found at the crime scene himself. The murder’s modus operandi may be familiar to any fans of the Court of Owls’ original comic book run by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, where one of the first panels depicts Batman looking into a similar crime scene with an individual pinned to the wall with blades.
This seems to suggest that Jim was getting close to discovering the Court, which could have led to his death. If so, Barbara may be more interconnected to Gotham Knights’ narrative than any other Bat Family companion fans can play as.
Gotham Knights is scheduled to release on October 25 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
