Another member of the Cobblepot family that makes an enigmatic appearance throughout Gotham Knights is Constance Cobblepot. Constance is first seen when encountering the Court of Owls, an ancient cult that operates in the shadows and serves as the main antagonist in the game. What makes Constance interesting is that she appears to be one of the few characters in Gotham Knights who was not pulled directly from Batman lore, leaving players with many questions about her origins, motivations, and connections to the Bat Family.

The Penguin to The Court of Owls
As players progress in the story campaign, the Bat Family becomes increasingly aware of the Court of Owls’s power over Gotham and how deep the roots of their power lie. The secretive group was formed by Gotham’s elite families, who have watched over the city since its inception and control the flow of power, politics, and business. Constance Cobblepot appears in the game as a member of the Court of Owls, wearing a gilded white mask to hide her features. Although she appears frail, players can overhear her devious plans for bribing senators and “dealing with filth.”
Constance comes across as a deeply cunning member of the Court of Owls who has wielded political power for years. Her age combined with her infamous last name could indicate that she is some sort of family matriarch. After all, Penguin appears to harbor animosity towards Constance. In turn, Oswald is revealed to be under surveillance by the Court of Owls despite turning his back on being a villain. It is revealed in the game that Penguin was working with Batman to help keep Gotham safe, putting his dealings in direct conflict with the main antagonist force of Gotham Knights.
Appearances In Future Gotham Knights Content
According to DC Comics lore, Oswald Cobblepot has been long estranged from his family. In fact, Oswald only became the infamous “Penguin” because the entirety of the Cobblepot family turned their back on him. In early Batman comics, it is established that Oswald was forced to carry an umbrella by his mother. Some Gotham Knights players believe that Constance Cobblepot is actually that same long-estranged mother character who is featured in Oswald’s origin story. Although it has been established that Oswald’s mother died early in his life, anything is possible in a world as twisted as the Batman universe.
Hopefully, players will be able to encounter Constance Cobblepot in future Gotham Knights content, allowing for her family history and role in the Court of Owls to be fully explained. There could even be a connection to Ethan Cobblepot, a.k.a. “Blacksun,” Oswald’s son. Blacksun is a dangerous villain who regularly faces off with Batgirl in the comic books but does not appear in the primary Gotham Knights story campaign. There is ample chance for players to encounter Blacksun doing Constance Cobblepot’s bidding in future DLC or Gotham Knights sequel. After all, the ending of Gotham Knights leaves many loose threads that could be resolved in content featuring the Bat family’s personal villains.
Gotham Knights is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
