PlayStation EVP in Europe Simon Rutter says that Gran Turismo 7 is going to “benefit from almost every single technological enhancement” in the PS5. Loading times will especially be affected, with Rutter saying that they’ll be “next to nothing” compared to previous Gran Turismo games.

Considering the number of menus that Gran Turismo players have traditionally had to navigate in order to select vehicles, customize them, and then choose which specific race they want, the absence of loading times is massively appealing. It’s also something that Sony should prioritize showing fans rather than telling them because it’s such a difficult thing to imagine.
The SSD isn’t the only PS5 technology that will be fully utilized in Gran Turismo 7, however. Rutter also describes how Gran Turismo 7 will be using 3D audio to recreate the sound of sitting in the cab. “Hear the thunderous roar of a Ferrari behind you or in front of you, and you can recognize the difference between that and the engine noise of a Maserati,” is Rutter’s surprisingly colorful description.
Lastly, Rutter mentions that the DualSense controller that comes with the PS5 will give Gran Turismo 7 players “a different feeling in your hands.” He equates it to the feeling of the tarmac of the racetrack or that of a gravel track. Of course, rumble improvements have been overexaggerated for decades, but it’ll be fun to discover what kind of improvements have been made with the DualSense.
There’s clearly a lot to Gran Turismo 7 that fans will have to experience for themselves, but there are improvements that can be immediately recognized, too. A recent analysis of Gran Turismo’s launch trailer showed that the game is using ray traced reflection. Ray tracing is a major visual technology for reflections and lighting that games will be using more and more often on next-gen consoles. Gran Turismo 7 is making a major effort to show off everything the PS5 is striving to achieve.
