Recently, Sony released a trailer highlighting Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon: Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and Grand Theft Auto 5. Within the trailers, Ratchet and Clank’s June 11th release date is shown, Horizon Forbidden West’s tentative release window for the second half of 2021 is shown, but Gran Turismo 7 and Grand Theft Auto 5 both only show “In development for PS5.” Since previous announcements for GTA 5’s upgrade have listed the title scheduled for the second half of 2021, players are noticing that the trailer does not show the previously announced release window.

Horizon Forbidden West has the second half of 2021 release window displayed in the Sony ad, so it is odd that Grand Theft Auto 5 would not also show the second half of 2021 release window. This small detail has led fans to discuss whether the upgrade for the title may be delayed until 2022. Although not officially confirmed by Rockstar, the potential delay has fans disappointed, especially given the absence of any Grand Theft Auto 6 announcements.

Although Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced Edition for the PS5 and Xbox Series X may potentially be delayed, the latest update to GTA Online may point to new features coming to the upgraded edition. One dataminer found files within the update that could suggest character transfers for the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. Since GTA Online does not currently have cross-play, players may be able to transfer their created online characters to the PS5 and Xbox Series X from their previous consoles.

It seems players are still enjoying GTA Online with the new update and the rising popularity of roleplay servers. NoPixel’s GTA Online roleplay server update recently launched GTA Online back to the top of Twitch’s top-watched games as high-profile streamers join the roleplay fun.

Players speculate if GTA 5 Enhanced Edition has been delayed until 2022, and many wonder what a delay could mean for the announcement of Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar has yet to announce either the delay or any plans for Grand Theft Auto 6, however, GTA 5 players are hoping the upgrade stays true to the originally scheduled release, giving players new features for the enhanced edition come second half of 2021.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions also in development.
