There has been plenty of love for Grand Theft Auto 5 since its launch, as players have commended Rockstar for expanding the lengths of what can be done in an open-world title, and expressed their love for the stories of Michael, Trevor, and Franklin, the latter of whom took center stage in the recent DLC story for GTA Online. GTA Online itself has seen exceptional popularity since its launch, along with numerous changes since then that have benefited players and gave them new adventures to experience in Los Santos.

And now, Rockstar has pulled back the curtain on new details regarding GTA 5’s transition to next-generation consoles. In a post on the community website, Rockstar laid out details regarding the future of both Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online once the game’s launched on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This came along with the confirmation that the remastered versions would be releasing on March 15.
Both GTA 5 and GTA Online are being graphically updated for the next-gen consoles, running at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, and utilizing the SSD capabilities of the new consoles to create faster loading times. Players will also have the chance to transfer over their story mode progress and GTA Online progression to the next-gen consoles with a one-time migration. It was also revealed that the standalone version of GTA Online for PS5 would be available for free for three months after launch.
This is an exciting reveal for players who have been anticipating this version of the game’s release, especially considering the long-standing rumors that the next-gen version of the Grand Theft Auto 5 would be delayed. And with the rumored new additions coming to GTA Online, particularly the leaked tease of a new map, there are surely some surprises that Rockstar are holding close to the chest for this new version of the game.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions launch on March 18.
