Bloomberg recently revealed details regarding Grand Theft Auto 6 in a new report. Of course, everything should be taken with a grain of salt until otherwise confirmed by the developer, but these new details are much more reliable than random internet rumors.

First and foremost, Bloomberg reports that Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature a playable female protagonist for the first time in franchise history. She is a Latina woman and will be part of a pair of protagonists, whose stories are influenced by the infamous bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde. It’s not the first time this information has been said online, but this gives the idea more weight. More specifically, the report also states that developers are being cautious and avoiding “punch down” jokes about marginalized groups.
It also seems the Project Americas rumors had something to them, as Bloomberg says the original plan was to include large portions of both North and South America in the game. This ambition was reeled in, however, and is focused on a fictionalized Miami, which fans of the franchise will likely know to be Grand Theft Auto’s Vice City.
It is said, to avoid crunch, that this version of Miami will be updated over time with new missions and even locations on a regular basis. Indeed, the Red Dead Redemption 2 crunch scandal has reportedly led to many changes at Rockstar Games. As mentioned by Nibel, internal changes have led to more producers, schedule changes, more full-time employees, the removal of abusive employees, new benefits, and more flexible scheduling.
Bloomberg states that, because of such changes, Rockstar employees aren’t sure the company can make the type of games it’s been known for—grandiose and highly detailed masterpieces. However, morale at Rockstar is reportedly higher than ever, and that in and of itself can only be good for the games Rockstar does make.
Finally, Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date is likely two years away, per Bloomberg’s sources. It seems the parent company Take-Two Interactive has an internal goal of releasing the title between April 2023 and March 2024, but some developers told Bloomberg two years was more likely than that specific window. It should be noted some designers quit at Rockstar’s Edinburg office, citing a lack of progress as the reason. It may be slow and steady, perhaps too slow even for some tastes, but slow and steady wins the race.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development.
