Around 9:20 p.m. in northeast Philadelphia, police reported that a man shot in the leg had hopped into the Philadelphia Fire Department ambulance that had arrived to assist him. The man took off down Roosevelt Boulevard and led police on a chase that lasted nearly an hour and a half. The unreal situation, which was broadcast live on television by numerous networks, caused the terms GTA 6 and Bully 2 to surge in popularity on Twitter.

Many people initially didn’t understand why the two Rockstar games, neither of which actually exist, had started trending. So, ironically, many of the posts that are causing the two terms to remain popular on Twitter are actually people simply asking for an explanation. Some people commented that stealing an ambulance and leading police on a high-speed chase was a “GTA-level move,” while others shared video of the ambulance chase and claimed that it was leaked footage of GTA 6.
According to police statements, when the as-yet unidentified man jumped into the driver’s seat of the ambulance, at least one police officer fired on him. But there is still no news as to the extent of any injuries, if any, sustained by the suspect or police officers. Nor is there any information about what may have caused the pursuit to begin in the first place.
The ambulance, moving at a fairly slow speed throughout the chase around the city, broke through several blockades. At one point during the pursuit, the ambulance appeared to be trapped in a Burger King parking lot by several police cars and the suspect opened the driver’s side door with his hands held up. But when officers approached to apprehend the man, he jumped back into the ambulance, rammed through multiple police cruisers, and sped off yet again. Later during the chase, a tow truck attempted to intercept the ambulance and cut it off, but the vehicle struck the tow truck and continued on its way.
Around 10:40 p.m. CST, the ambulance was driving on rims, possibly because both of the front tires had been punctured by police road spike strips. It eventually stopped at the 2700 block of Tolbut Street in northeast Philadelphia. The suspect, wearing nothing but a pair of red shorts, was forced to the ground by police officers, handcuffed, and transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is rumored to be in development.
