The latest news on Grand Theft Auto 6 comes from Take-Two’s latest financial update. Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke openly about the game, first stating that development was “well underway.” He also said that Rockstar “is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment.” Grand Theft Auto is a series known for pushing boundaries, both in terms of the content it covers and the feats of development it has accomplished. Many praised Grand Theft Auto 5 for looking so impressive even on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, for example.

Back in February, when Rockstar first unveiled that work on Grand Theft Auto 6 was underway, the company stated that it wished to move beyond its previous achievements. It does seem that the upcoming entry to the franchise will see some major differences from past entries. The humor in Grand Theft Auto 6, for example, will no longer seek to “punch down,” meaning that it will likely involve even more of the political satire the series already contains.

Also, there’s the potential addition of Grand Theft Auto 6’s female protagonist, something that the franchise hasn’t seen in a considerable amount of time. Returning to Zelnick’s statements in the financial update, apart from the statement regarding setting benchmarks, he didn’t have much else to say on Grand Theft Auto 6. Still, to know that both Rockstar and Take-Two have high hopes for the latest addition to the series is good for fans, who have been waiting for this game for almost a decade.

However, there’s currently no confirmed date on when this long wait will come to an end. Since the game was confirmed in February, plenty of leakers have tried to guess when Grand Theft Auto 6 will release, with many pointing to a possible 2024 or 2025 date as a vague time fans can expect to see the title. Still, until the word comes from Rockstar or Take-Two, Grand Theft Auto 6 will remain in somewhat of a limbo. Hopefully, with word that development is “well underway,” fans won’t have to wait too much longer.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development.
