The launch of the compilation featuring Grand Theft Auto’s three PS2-era titles was immediately slammed by critics following release for a number of technical problems. The trilogy was plagued by widespread refunds from players who were unhappy with the poor state of the remasters, to the point where Rockstar’s store even re-instated the original PC releases of the games due to backlash from angry fans. While the Definitive Edition has seen several updates introducing a bevy of fixes to the three games, Rockstar isn’t finished yet as the developer confirmed another update for next week.

A post from the official Rockstar Games Twitter account on Tuesday announced that a new update would be hitting Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition sometime next week, with the patch coming to all platforms the game was released on. While the post did not detail any specifics about what the coming update would feature, the developer thanked fans for their patience and support as it continues to work on the highly controversia yet also highly successful GTA trilogy.

While the Grand Theft Auto compilation was highly successful for Rockstar, its poor reception on release highlighted a rough trend for Rockstar over recent months. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version of Grand Theft Auto 5, subtitled Expanded and Enhanced, saw significant criticism for fans arguing that the game looked very similar to last-gen versions. Amidst the negative press Rockstar was receiving following the trilogy’s launch, Rockstar also announced that GTA 6 was in development, with many fans taking the announcement as a distraction from the ongoing fiasco.

With the controversy surrounding Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition’s release now starting to die down, many fans of the massive developer have now started to turn their attention towards Rockstar’s next major title, Grand Theft Auto 6. GTA 6 has been rumored to be in development for several years with the last new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series coming with GTA 5’s release in 2013. More news on the highly-anticipated game would be welcome news for long-time fans of the franchise and a chance for Rockstar to make amends for the trilogy’s faults.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and mobile devices.
